Carmen Ackerman is an avid hospitality-marketing veteran.For more than a dozen years, she has served as Director of Fort Lauderdale's Riverwalk Arts & Entertainment District. She developed a multi-channel destination marketing project that features six cultural organizations partly funded through bed tax dollars. The program's strategies helped to deliver more than a million visitors in five years to consortium partners. Working collaboratively with cultural stakeholders, Carmen develops hotel packages with area properties, compelling media campaigns, consumer-based promotions, and effective social media communications that create comprehensive strategies, targeting visitors both in and out of the market. As a tourism specialist, she serves on the Greater Fort Lauderdale's Convention & Visitor's Bureau as co-chair of its Marketing Advisory Committee and co-president of the South Florida Chapter of Hospitality Sales & Marketing Association International. Her cultural arts background has enabled her to serve on both the Broward Workshop's Cultural Arts Committee and the Greater Fort Lauderdale's Chamber of Commerce Cultural Affairs Committee. She is also a frequent speaker on cultural tourism at various conferences, panels, and workshops. Carmen's career highlights include Turnberry Isle Resort & Club in Miami, where she served as public relations director. During her tenure, she was part of the opening team for two sister properties, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in Miami, and the Fairmont Mayakoba Resort in Quintana Roo, Playa del Carmen, Mexico. She is committed to supporting nonprofit arts and hospitality-based businesses and programs by providing creative and innovative approaches that target consumers. Her work focuses on creating partnerships that foster sound strategies, deliver on mission, and provide new revenue streams. Carmen's early career took some exciting detours, including marketing leadership positions in various industries, such as design and architecture, banking, health and medical, and agency communications. All these experiences provided a well-rounded understanding of business and industry needs at various levels. She leverages these experiences for the benefit of her clients. An avid traveler, Carmen is always on the hunt for new countries to visit and explore their cultural offerings. She claims that the best ideas often come from borrowing what she loves from other destinations.
