As a member of the Transportation, Engineering and Development departmental management team, I provided leadership and allocated resources for transportation and land use planning projects. A large part of my role was to supervise staff including planners, an engineer, and project assistants. I oversaw special and routine transportation and land use planning projects, providing direction and review of staff work prior to submission to boards, commissions, and the City Council.

One of my initial duties was to lead the development and implementation of the City’s first Comprehensive Transportation Plan. I frequently facilitated and led public outreach efforts including the organization of public meetings, presentations to community organizations, communication with the press, and creation of informational materials. I represented the City of Naperville on various intergovernmental committees in the Chicago metropolitan area. My responsibilities included a wide range of transportation planning and policy activities related to pedestrians, bicyclists, disabled individuals, roadways, traffic calming, transit, and parking management. One of the projects of which I am most proud was to champion Ride DuPage, an innovative transportation program for seniors and people with disabilities.

Prior to working for the City of Naperville for over six years, I worked at various private and public organizations as a transportation and urban planner and also spent a year as an expatriate living in Sumatra, Indonesia. Organizations I worked for as an planner included private consulting companies in the Minneapolis, Minnesota and Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan areas. Additionally as a undergraduate student and graduate student I had internships with county planning and zoning departments. While earning my Master's degree, I spent a summer interning at a federal agency in Washington DC.
