About Carmen Cunningham

Greetings! My name is Carmen and my life’s calling to optimize authenticity with others. My professional ”sweet spot” sits between human development, community building and practical theology.I hold a bachelor's degree in Human Learning and Development (concentrations in Educational Psychology and Counseling) from Georgia State University. I have experience as an executive assistant and my leadership skills were sharpened as a member of many student organizations at GSU including AmeriCorps Jumpstart, Panther Breakaway, NAACP, Power of The Students and the Youth Council at the King Center. Outside of my campus-based involvement, I was the Senior Supervisor of Guest Relations, VIP Tours and Will Call at Six Flags Over Georgia and I served as the Interim Youth Director at Big Miller Grove Missionary Baptist Church. In 2014, I was recognized by the Samuel Dewitt Proctor Conference as a budding agent of change. I was selected to receive the Living Legacies Award by civil rights leader and my now mentor, Rev. Amos Brown. I also received the Presidents Volunteer Service Award in 2014 and 2015 for over 1,000 hours a year devoted to serving others.I am also a graduate of Emory University where I earned my Master's in Divinity. During my time there, I became a leader in the University community as a Chaplain Intern with the Department of Juvenile Justice, Teaching Assistant in Pastoral Care, Graduate Student Assistant in Development and Alumni Engagement, Treasurer for the Black Student Caucus and Founder of the Student-Alumni Board. In 2019, I was awarded the Berta R. and James T. Laney Award from Candler School of Theology which recognizes a student’s engagement with the practices of ministry exemplifying the concern to do theology as simultaneous reflection and action carried out within the personal and social context of loving of God and neighbor.
