    Calgary, Alberta, Canada
I was responsible for supervising, training, leading, coaching, and supporting the field operations of a 17-member team to safely execute interviews/enumeration for the 2021 Census within the Rocky View County and Wheatland County areas in Alberta.During the project execution, I planned and strategized the team tasks to complete goals on time and within budget.
  • Conocophillips
    Total System Specialist
    Conocophillips May 2017 - Jun 2019
    Calgary, Alberta, Canada
l led a project for developing a market-ready product using a new diluent ratio (bench-scale). The program included management of the largest collection of emulsion sampling in the plant's history (700L) and the coordination of a large cross-functional team including Calgary and Field personnel, Bartlesville partners and laboratory contractors. Thanks to my expert judgement and the team collaboration we managed to saved ~ 30% of budget during the project's life. I was the Subject Matter Expert on produced water management for Phase1 and Phase2 Central Processing Facilities. I collaborated with monitoring and reporting water accounting KPIs for stakeholders. I was responsible for evaluating and alerting the facility water management targets to meet regulatory compliance as per Alberta Energy Regulator directives.
  • Conocophillips
    Senior Operations Specialist
    Conocophillips Feb 2013 - May 2017
    Calgary, Canada Area
I was in charge of analysing scenarios to provide recommendations on water/machinery management in order to achieve regulatory compliance by reducing wastewater. I was able to optimize cost allowing to save $150K from saline water intake reduction.I co-coordinated the reduced blowdown trial at Phase1 CPF. By collaborating with Facility Engineers and Field Operators during these trials we reduced steam generators' maintenance cycles while keeping water recycle within targets, resulting in cost-effective savings of $5.2MM in a year (2014). I prepared periodical written reports for stakeholders.
  • Conocophillips
    Operations Specialist - Oil Sands
    Conocophillips May 2012 - Jan 2013
    Calgary, Canada Area
I contributed with Facility Engineers, Metering Advisor and Instrumentation team to evaluate and diagnose the performance of the steam production system. Based on the findings, I proposed a new material balance calculation; which allowed the reduction of the water imbalance in the facility from 8.8% (non-compliance) to 3.9% (full compliance). I was the owner of water regulatory KPIs (definition, governance, reporting). I led trials and prepared reports and communications with regulatory agencies to comply with water recycle targets as per Alberta Regulations. I additionally, collaborated in the yearly summary of the company's regulatory examination report.
  • University Of Calgary
Post Doctoral Fellow At Catalysis For Bitumen Upgrading Group
University Of Calgary Jan 2011 - May 2012
    Calgary, Alberta
I researched on: a) hydroprocessing of water-dissolved asphaltenes, and b) catalysts and processes for heavy oil upgrading at conditions close to in-reservoir operation. I mentored 2 doctorate and four master candidates. I coordinated biannual meetings between the Alberta Innovate Centre for InSitu Energy research members and the five industry technology partners to delivered results on strategic programs.
  • University Of Calgary
Graduate Researcher • Teaching Assistant • Doctoral Candidate
University Of Calgary Sep 2005 - Dec 2010
    Calgary, Canada Area
I managed a project for designing, building and commissioning of an experimental set-up to research on “Upgrading Athabasca Bitumen using Dispersed Unsupported Catalysts”. During this project, I was able to collect experimental data from catalytic reactions to successfully developed kinetic models and viscosity-conversion empirical correlations to predict residue conversion, product distribution and quality of the upgraded material (operation at moderate to low temperatures and pressures).I wrote and successfully defended my dissertation on "Upgrading Athabasca Bitumen using Submicronic NiWMo Catalysts at conditions near to In-reservoir operation" During my research work within this group, I mentored approximately 10 graduate students; I received the Best Graduate Student Paper award at the 2010 AICISE's conference and I attended and presented papers at 4 international congresses.I managed a project for NOVA-Chemicals on hydrocracking of aromatics to produce light paraffins. Within this project, I supervised 1 laboratory technician; produced 3 technical reports for NOVA; coauthored 1 peer reviewed paper and presented non reviewed articles at 2 conferences.
  • Pdvsa-Intevep
    Senior Researcher & Project Leader
    Pdvsa-Intevep Sep 1998 - Mar 2003
    Los Teques, Venezuela
I co-tutored the career progression of 9 professionals in the area of catalytic conversion of heavy oils. As a technical expert in that area, I revised employees’ annual performance, evaluated career growth and proposed professional development.I produced 3 kinetic models from more than 200 experiments of thermal conversion of Venezuelan heavy crude oils and residues. From these analyses, I estimated the product distribution and predicted coking and fouling after both hydro and chemical treatment of heavy feeds.I administered a $1,2MM grant for a 3-year-research project on upgrading and desulfurization of heavy oils. I also successfully coordinated and supervised a multidisciplinary team (12 members), which led to a potential 66% decrease in the sulfur content of the Orimulsion®, a combustible produced and commercialized by PDVSA.
