After studying journalism at university and graduating, I repeatedly hounded a local newspaper (close to stalker-status, but we'll gloss over that) until they gave me a job.A year later I decided to go travelling with my (now) husband and then move to London to expand our horizons.As luck (wouldn't) have it, we arrived in the middle of the recession (helllloooo 2008!) and I had to work as a shoe shiner until eventually landing a job as a journalist. Fast forward five years and I had worked my way up to Deputy Editor for a host of B2B magazines, before becoming an Account Manager at a creative content agency where I specialised in social media and video.The itchy feet syndrome caught me again and David and I travelled the four corners of the globe for nearly four years. Throughout this time, we set up our own company - Red Platypus - helping small businesses improve their online presence through marketing and content creation.We returned to Perth in 2016 and had a baby. But... we were still seeking for the location-independent lifestyle, so we set off two years later with our toddler in tow and travelled Australia for 18 months in a caravan. We ran Red Platypus from a rickety camping table from every Australian state and territory, blogging about our experiences on double-barrelledtravel.com.Pregnancy and COVID meant we returned home in February 2020, had another daughter, and knuckled down on Red Platypus once more. We took all of the lessons learnt from working remotely into living the freedom lifestyle we love, albeit from a home office!And it was then we had a revelation. We wanted to inspire more creative souls to live fulfilling lives and get out of the mundane 9-to-5. We’d been running our writing business since 2014 while living the lives we’d always dreamed of, and we wanted to show more creative people how they could do it too!
