Carmen has been practising law in Hong Kong for over 18 years, during which she has worked in both the private and public sectors. Qualifying in Hong Kong in 2004 and England and Wales, she started her legal career working as a commercial litigator.Carmen’s skills as a litigator led to a call from the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data, Hong Kong and, in 2010, she was appointed Legal Counsel with responsibility for providing legal advice on personal data protection issues. She expanded her legal expertise further in 2012 when she became Investigation Counsel for the Law Society of Hong Kong, leading probes into alleged professional misconduct cases. In 2017 Carmen returned to private practice. Ltd (HCA 1812 of 2017) – Represented the Defendant and succeeded in persuading the Plaintiff in discontinuing the whole action through an application to strike out Plaintiff’s claim and dismiss the action• Tang Chack Wing v Yung Woon Kwai (HCA 1837 of 2020) – Represented the Defendant and succeeded in resisting a summary judgment application on a claim for breach of a sale and purchase agreement for shares of 4 Hong Kong companies and 1 Mauritius company• Chan Shu Chun & Anor v Dr Kung Yan Sum [2020] 1 HKLRD 1162 – Acted for 1st Defendant in successfully dismissing Plaintiff’s appeal to Judge in Chambers over a specific discovery application concerning the relevance of the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance to the scope of discoverable documents• Represented Defendant in a claim brought by his brother in High Court over the beneficial ownership of ancestral home and succeeded in assisting the parties on reaching settlement
