As a Yeoman in the Coast Guard I wear many different hats, helping to teach me how to quickly and effectively adapt to each situation. I'm a Human Resources Professional and Supervisor, I am also an Administrative Specialist and handle Benefits Management, as well as assisting on committees and special projects. I love what I do, although it was not in my original life plan, but what fun would it be if life worked out exactly how we planned it?I went to college right out of High School with no idea what I wanted to major in. Being from a business oriented family I decided to start there and went straight for Business Management. After taking a few Marketing classes I found I enjoyed those so much that I added a minor in Marketing. Upon graduating in 2008 I had a rough start finding a job that was not sales oriented and commissioned based. I knew sales was not my forte as I had developed a passion for Management and Marketing.Upon the suggestion from my Dad I started looking at joining the military as they would pay for me to get my Master's Degree. I decided the Coast Guard was the best fit for me, and I told myself I would do my 4 years, get my MBA, and move on, so off I went to boot camp. Once I arrived at my first unit after procuring my position as a Yeoman I started my MBA at Davenport University in Strategic Management. Shortly after starting my degree program I met my husband, who is also in the Coast Guard, and my life plan completely changed! Now, 2 kids and 14 years later I’m still going strong. have enjoyed my time in the Coast Guard immensely, it has taught me so much. Having been stationed in Traverse City, MI to Kodiak, AK, to Houston, TX, and currently in Elizabeth City, NC, I have met and worked with so many different people, and learned so much from each and everyone of them.As a Yeoman, Morale Committee Chair, and Honor Guard Coordinator I have developed a strong attention to detail as well as excellent budgeting, planning, management, and team building skills. I have gained a reputation for outstanding communication skills as I have to correspond with individual members along with different ADMIN and command staff, quickly building rapport with all organizational levels. I take pride in doing my job to they absolute best of my abilities, which has earned me 2 Commandant's Letter of Accommodation awards and 4 Coast Guard Achievement medals. I plan to take everything I've learned during my time in the Coast Guard with me into my next career.
