Development, dissemination, and use of evidence-based curricular strategies for retention of undergraduates in science. Program director and developer of the Prevalence of Antibiotic Resistance in the Environment (PARE) Project, an international educational program that engages undergraduates in an authentic classroom research experience. Through participation in PARE, students learn research techniques, develop understanding of the nuance and complexities of research, and generate data to shed light on environmental presence of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) microbes. The project provides an opportunity to educate a diverse demographic of undergraduates on the impact of our environment on human health and the importance of sound stewardship policy. Through relationships with the UC Berkeley Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Harvard Medical School, and a local company (miniPCR), we are working to develop advanced surveillance options. Through relationships with the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine and policy experts at the Medical School, we are developing more advanced and educative materials to increase awareness of the environmental impact and the efficacy of stewardship to reach students at the graduate level.Educational research projects include the study of barriers and motivators for adoption of educational innovations by instructors and institutions, pedagogical content knowledge effective to correct student misconceptions, and student outcomes of a classroom research experience. https://sites.tufts.edu/ctse/pare/https://www.pareseq.com
