It is Carol's belief that, "Architecture and interior design is not just a job. It is a responsible commitment in community service; a responsibility to the enduring and creative advancement of humankind and environmental preservation." As a human rights advocate for 40 years, interior designer, artist, educator, author, and speaker, Carol has seen life from the bottom to the top. Born in Chicago she has travelled the world in volunteer service for over a quarter of a century working to improve the human condition. Ms. Cisco resides in Lawrence, Kansas as an award winning interior design professional. A few of her humanitarian projects include the international headquarters of the largest drug rehabilitation facility in the world, an international campus for world literacy, and a human rights embassy in Brussels, Belgium. Her work with Designing for Veterans, a nonprofit design studio she founded, is dedicated to providing severely disabled veterans with customized interiors, architecture, planning, furnishings and construction to address the specific needs of the veteran whether they are physically, mentally, or emotionally (PTSD) disabled at no cost to the veteran or their family. Ms. Cisco's wellness design approach developed to aid in the recovery of veterans is award winning and has been recognized by the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Interior Designers Association (IIDA) for her design work, passion and commitment to serving our wounded heroes. She recently received the national organization of ASID's Focus Award for Wellness Design and the International Association of Top Professional's International Interior Designer of the Year 2024. In addition to her voluntary work with Designing for Veterans Carol is the Principal and Owner of Signature Design + Studio. Here she continues to work and research into the impact of interior design on health and wellness. Carol believes that "Interior Design is more than aesthetics." In her research she discovered that, “…every design choice, every color, texture, spatial arrangement, every detail employed; whether for function, aesthetics or psychological benefit has a therapeutic purpose and value." Design can change lives and her work has proven that time and time again. Looking forward, Carol has a book in the works.
