About Carol Devine

I grew up in Northern Ontario. I loved the snowy winters and the short blue-berry picking summers and having cousins all around me. I am a social scientist, writer, activist, researcher, climate, biodiversity, ocean champion and conceptual artist. I lead and join amazing multi-disciplinary global teams and collaborate broadly to exchange and disseminate knowledge, and advocate for health equity and planetary health for all. I'm a strategic and skilled thinker, doer, communicator, and innovator who works creatively and jointly for change while celebrating the many cultures and knowledges of the world and the earth's beauty. For Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders I lead MSF's Humanitarian Action on Climate and Environment (HACE) Initiative and have the fortune to work with colleagues in MSF globally and partners around the world on adaptation, early warning and action and decarbonization initiatives. I was also MSF's Access to Essential Medicines campaigner in Canada and humanitarian advisor in Rwanda and South Sudan. Prior to MSF, I also worked for The Museum of AID in Africa, The Stephen Lewis Foundation, on book-writing and making projects and I led a civilian ecological expedition to Antarctica chronicled in The Antarctic Book of Cooking and Cleaning, cultural history book I co-wrote about that project.Specialties: Humanitarian action and advocacyClimate & HealthGlobal HealthPlanetary Health Advocacy Conference Complex Project ManagementAccess to Medicines AntarcticaCircumpolar HealthMarine debrisOceansHealth equityGender-based ViolenceCampaigningHumanitarian lawHuman rightsTeambuildingLeadershipSocial InnovationGrant reviewing, grant writingStrategic plannerPublic speaking and storytellingRefugee health & rightsResearch & WritingPolar cultural history and environmentEquity, Diversity and InclusionScience CommunicationClimate and CultureExpedition making & leadingEnvironmentBoard of Director experience 14 years, 2 organizationsConceptual Art
