Carol is a Domestic Violence survivor of an almost 30- year marriage but has rebuilt her life and is 12+ years on the other side of that life. She chose at age 51 to relocate to Austin, Texas as an Americorps VISTA volunteer, in July 2013 for a 1-year commitment. That year was a new beginning for her life and her purpose.In 2017 Carol accepted the position of Executive Director of The Little Black Dress Society, a non-profit organization, bringing awareness to Domestic Violence and helping to support women in abusive relationships. After she left her abusive relationship in March 2009, she became a member of LBDS. LBDS helped her through her initial healing from her abusive relationship and she will always be a huge supporter of their ministry. LBDS gave her countless opportunities to share her story through interviews, documentaries and social media outlets, as well as to speak at various venues and conferences. Carol feels that in order to make changes, we must bring awareness to the issues which we are passionate about. This has changed her life and made clearer her calling – to advocate for those who do not have a voice to advocate for themselves.While living in Austin and San Antonio, she worked with vulnerable populations including incarcerated and formerly incarcerated women and men, veterans, the elderly, women experiencing domestic violence, people suffering from alcoholism, drug abuse and mental illness, and the homelessness population. After taking a short break during the summer of 2018, she accepted the position of Executive Director at Corazon Ministries, Inc. in October. Carol’s goal is to partner with like-minded people, and organizations, who share the passion of wanting to help close the gaps, one at a time, with sustainable, purposeful solutions, not with “Band-Aid” fixes. In December 2019 she started another chapter after leaving Corazon Ministries. After spending the past couple of years during COVID, caring for her mother with Alzheimer’s and after the sudden death of her brother, AND after a major car accident, Carol has moved into another chapter. Returning to Corazon Ministries in April of 2023, she is back working with “her peeps”. Her heart has always been working with the “unhoused” street friends. She also returns to working with The Alamo Street Choir, and has recently joined The San Antonio Chamber Choir Board to continue to advocate for the street choir. She also serves on the One Pill Kills Brooke Keith Commission for Fentanyl Awareness.Carol S. GambleSan Antonio, Texas.
