Recruited to lead the Family Development Center to increased success, overseeing a childcare center, preschool, and a lab school environment for prospective teachers. Engage in direct services with hundreds of families and children and lead grant writing activities for all interrelated centers under FDC. Lead marketing initiatives, recruitment, staff and teacher hiring/training and the search for families with children as likely customers. Held a concurrent role as an undergraduate instructor from 2011 to 2015, teaching seven courses on child growth and development, principles and management of early childhood leadership, and management of early childhood education initiatives. Report directly to the Dean of the College of Education and via her to the Provost.► As a respected turnaround manager, rapidly expanded the Center’s footprint and returned it to profitability after losing as much as $25K in the preceding years; delivered licensing and accreditation within three years of hire; increased GSU student involvement 168% over five years, boosted revenue 500% over eight years and more than doubled the number of employees from 20 in 2008 to more than 45 FT and PT employees today. ► Led the center to receiving a Quality Rating System Star Gold Level from the Illinois Dept. of Human Services in January 2013. ► Recognized as an excellent early childhood center by a MacArthur Genius award winner in 2011 and as a “Point of Proof “ by the Black Child Development Institute in 2016.► Wrote a major $5M federal grant for a five-year program that was successfully awarded to increase access to comprehensive Early Head Start services.► Wrote and received two state preschool grants worth a total of approximately $1M.► Led a successful initiative to boost Family Development Center revenue by increasing the cash tuition to approximately $1M annually and increasing enrollment from 70 in 2008 to more than 150 paying families today.

Recruited to turn around an an underperforming Head Start program and related children’s programs within a community development that also provided housing to senior citizens and other vital initiatives. Oversaw five direct reports, with approximately 50 total staff.► Identified significant gaps in ongoing policy and spearheaded the total rewriting and implementation of Bethel’s policies and procedures regarding Head Start and all children’s programs.► Successfully transformed a failing preschool program that was on the block to be defunded into one that passed inspection by federal regulators in just under a year.

Supervised a satellite campus in the next county and became the sole grant writer for the agency. Hired a staff of 20 and boosted enrollment from 64 to 100 from 1998 to 2006. Answered directly to the CEO and delivered presentations to the Board on program success and funding. Directed the full remodeling of a building including budget and vendor oversight. Worked closely with internal team and external stakeholders on program licensing.► Took the initiative to expand the program over the years, adding a preschool program and then promoted to lead that program to award-winning success. ► Directed the Early Head Start program to becoming one of the model programs in the state of Illinois, as reflected by federal monitoring teams.► As the grant writer, led a project with high school students and other volunteers to finance and build an Inclusive, barrier-free playground budgeted at over $200K ( in 2005 dollars) phased in over 4 years.► Wrote five federal, three state and one private grant proposals, resulting in nearly $4M worth of total program support.
