Depuis son admission au Barreau de l’Ontario en 1999, Carole s’est consacrée à une carrière en droit fiscal. En tant qu’avocate à la section des services du droit fiscal du ministère de la Justice, Carole a plaidé devant la Cour canadienne de l’impôt, la Cour fédérale et la Cour d’appel du Canada. Elle a été avocate séniore, conseil à la vérification, à la Direction du secteur international et des grandes entreprises de l’Agence du Revenu du Canada (ARC). À ce titre, elle a offert la prestation de conseils juridiques liée aux grandes entreprises sur des questions d’évitement, domestique ou international, et à la planification fiscale abusive de portée nationale et internationale. Carole a travaillé au sein du Service de l’autorité compétente de l’ARC dans le cadre de négociations et de résolutions de différends internationaux impliquant la double imposition. Elle a travaillé à la Direction des décisions anticipées, et elle a participé au Programme de Renouvellement des Appels dans le cadre duquel elle a fourni des avis juridiques aux agents des appels lors du processus d’opposition. En plus de son expérience au sein de l’administration fédérale, elle a œuvré en planification fiscale au sein de cabinets comptables à Ottawa et à Moncton. As a litigator with the Tax Litigation Section of the DOJ, Carole represented CRA on numerous issues and has successfully argued before the Federal Courts.Eventually, Carole assumed the role of Counsel at audit stage to work with CRA’s International Large Business Directorate. As a former litigator forming part of the audit team, she advised on substantive and procedural matters in large files, avoidance, and international tax matters.Carole has also served CRA as a project officer with the Advanced Tax Rulings Directorate and as a senior technical specialist with the Competent Authority Services where she participated in the resolution of double taxation, both on technical cases and in transfer pricing disputes.Carole participated in the Appeals Renewal Initiative for the DOJ Ottawa office, where she provided legal opinions to appeals officers in the course of the objection process.In addition to her work in the Public Sector, Carole has advised and represented clients in private accounting firms in New Brunswick and Ontario.Carole gives back to the professional community. Over the years, she was Professor at Ottawa University Faculty of Law in the French Common Law Program, an Instructor to the Law Society of Ontario and speaker to the tax community and at CRA events.
