Plant macrofossil analysis on sediment cores taken from 16 lakes in the Lake District and Glasgow for the NERC funded Hydroscape project: Connectivity x stressor interaction in freshwater habitats.
Field Assistant
I took part in a 10-day field trip as a field assistant in the Lake District, working alongside leading researchers from UCL. As part of the fieldwork, I collected sediment cores, soils and water samples from 8 lakes in lowland and upland sites for the NERC funded Hydroscape project 'Connectivity x stressor interaction in freshwater habitats' (https://hydroscapeblog.wordpress.com). For my undergraduate dissertation, I applied a multiproxy palaeolimnological approach using diatom, plant macrofossil and sedimentary organic matter (LOI, XRF) analyses on the samples from Easedale Tarn to infer its history and response to sulphur and nitrogen deposition. I presented my findings in March at the UCL Geography Departmental Conference.
