Responsibilities include engineering and lighting design, including the supervision of associated staff, for a wide variety of different types of projects. These include, but are not limited to, large and small office facilities, mult-dwelling residential (standard and senior living), skilled nursing, educational facilities, places of worship, entertainment venues, public assembly, lodging, retail, public works and industrial facilities, as well as, street, streetscape, recreational and landscape lighting. Lighting design methods utilize the conventional, as well as the unconventional, as it relates to lighting systems and controls. Typical examples are the use of indirect lighting systems in nontraditional applications, as well as the use of controls to enhance energy utilization in previously unforeseen ways. Some examples of these techniques os the use of indirect lighting in worship area applications, as well as patient rooms. Occupancy controls are the norm on nearly all projects.Project lighting design responsibilities have included special effect lighting design utilizing non-traditional LED and fiber optic, as well as traditional sources, and the analysis of those lighting systems with lighting design software. This can include everything from determining the spill lighting levels to be anticipated adjacent to an athletic field to lighting levels and quality to be anticipated on a piece of art to reading light levels from an indirect source on a nursing home patients pillow.
