Principal Gifts for CRUK are the top end of major gifts, £3m plus. This is a new philanthropic function for CRUK which I was hired to establish and build out, and to integrate collaboratively with existing fundraising teams. The initial focus of the role had to be internal, due to the need to promote an understanding of the Principal Gift function and Principal Gift donors and prospects across the organisation. Latterly, the focus has become more external, working on a pipeline of warm and cold prospects both within and outside of the UK.

Melanoma Institute Australia (MIA) is regarded nationally and internationally as unique. Headquartered in the Poche Centre but with affiliated activities in various universities and hospitals, MIA achieves the perfect marriage of care and research as the top clinicians who see patients in the building are also top researchers. MIA's patients contribute blood and tissue to the biobank and data to the research database, both of which assets are the largest in the world in melanoma. This was the inaugural CEO position, established to take the organisation to the next level. I retired from the position at the end of April 2018 to relocate to Spain to be nearer to my daughter living in London.

St Vincent's Health Australia had a critical business need to raise at least $25 million to redevelop St Vincent's Private Hosptial Sydney. It has been my pleasure and privilege to run this Capital Campaign through the St Vincent's Curran Foundation and work with a number of key supporters of St Vincent's to successfully raise $27 million for this important purpose in just under a year.

NBCF was an organisation which had grown very rapidly and back in 2010, needed professionalising as so many charities in this situation do. It is not enough to do good, you must do it well and that was the job ahead. I was able to bring to bear the full range of my skills, which was a wonderful experience. My presentation skills were used to raise NBCF's profile in the media and through public speaking. My marketing skills were used to identify areas of the 'pink market' which had been underserved, and to devise strategies and initiatives to highlight and meet their needs and thus counter the common perception that breast cancer is too 'well off' as a cause. My fundraising skills were used to increase revenue over four years from $17m to over $27m. And my leadership and management skills were used every day to inspire, motivate, coach and develop our greatest asset, people.

Garvan Research Foundation is the fundraising arm of the Garvan Institute, one of the top three medical research enterprises in Australia. It was a privilege to work with some of the best minds in science and to find ways to 'sell' their work to inspire philanthropy. Over five years, annual revenue was raised from $2.5m to $15m. I was also fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved in creation of the Kinghorn Cancer Centre, a magnificent new $110m facility which co-locates researchers, clinicians and patients in order to accelerate outcomes.

With some interruptions, I spent a number of years at the Australian Consumers' Association and enjoyed the variety of challenges very much. I started there as a journalist working on CHOICE magazine and wrote a number of award winning articles. I then moved into policy work and specialised in the fields of food and health, representing ACA in the media. I led the consumer campaign on genetically modified food and established the first consensus conference in Australia.
