Resilience. Persistence. Passion. Dedication. Hard-working. These are some words that describe my academic journey, with great friendships and lots of fun times in between.In 2015 I challenged myself to enrol in the Biomedical Engineering course and one of the factors that led me to make this decision was the fact that it is a comprehensive course that combines technology with health, and to know that somehow I could contribute to improving clinical practice by providing meaningful and innovative solutions to improve patient's clinical outcomes and lives. All this keeps me motivated to do my best and committed to continuously learn and grow professionally.At the end of my BSc, I performed an internship at the University of Verona that put me in contact with a new reality: Deep Learning. I participated in the Horizon 2020 project titled MURAB, in which I developed a segmentation model using convolutional neural networks (CNNs) to delineate breast lesions from MR images. The ultimate goal of the project was to support doctors in the early detection of small suspicious lesions by improving the precision and effectiveness of the biopsy gathering for cancer diagnostic operations. This was a great experience and Machine Learning and Deep Learning have become areas of great interest for me. Besides this field, I'm also interested in healthcare management, including new healthcare delivery models focused on the patients' needs and my MSc was focus on the clinical engineering field.I had the opportunity to develop my Master’s Thesis entitled: "Combining Workflow Modelling with Scenario Planning Tools: Process Improvement in a Clinical Laboratory" in the Enterprise Services team at Siemens Healthineers and to work closely with lab diagnostic professionals at a critical time for the in vitro diagnostics industry: the Covid-19 pandemic. This was my first contact with the business environment which gave me the opportunity to meet and contact people from different fields and different backgrounds, which in turn allowed me to develop my professional and personal skills, providing me with a deeper understanding and awareness of the individual differences. One of my favourite hobbies is the practice of physical exercise, from team sports such as basketball and football to individual sports such as running and doing my own workout sessions. I consider myself a curious person and I’m always ready to try something new and embrace a good challenge.
