IslandWood Graduate Program - Education for the Environment and CommunityAs a graduate student in the IslandWood EEC program, I conduct four day experiential learning courses for students from the greater Seattle area. Students learn about the pillars of IslandWood - understanding and engaging with science, teamwork and collaboration, engaging with place, embracing safe adventures and practicing pro-environmental behaviors. In addition to these experiences, I am pursuing an M.Ed. in Science Education at the University of Washington.

As Santa Barbara County Coastal Cleanup Day Coordinator, I ensure that all logistics are accounted for when planning this well-attended event. Each year in September, thousands of people flock to our beaches to clean up trash from our waterways that would endanger our marine environment as part of a greater international effort the same day. I prepare all beaches for this effort including staffing upwards of thirty beaches, training volunteers, applying for permits with the proper City, County and State agencies, assembling supplies and working with our PR team. In 2017, over 1,000 volunteers cleaned 6,000lbs of trash off of Santa Barbara beaches.

Manage the South Coast Watershed Resource Center on behalf of Explore Ecology. Approximately 8,000 students attend field trips at the WRC per year, as well as countless other visitors. Ensure scheduling of community groups that use the space is up to date.

As an Environmental Educator at the largest environmental education non-profit in Santa Barbara County, I educate K-6 students about the importance of resource and water conservation. In addition to my hands on experience in the classroom I assist with contract metrics and fulfillment, and compile detailed invoices to send to our government partners, totaling upwards of $100,000 each month.

As a Garden Educator at Explore Ecology I managed a school garden that up to 200 students visited each week. I crafted age appropriate lessons for each class, ranging from Pre-K to sixth grade, aligned lessons with current standards, worked with teachers and staff to coordinate weekly visits and maintained a functional garden with eight raised garden beds and twelve fruit trees. I worked to increase composting levels at school lunches by leveraging interaction of both sixth and third graders who volunteered each week to be compost monitors at lunchtime.

As an intern at the Land Trust for Santa Barbara County, I support the mission of protecting natural resources and open land with the creation of conservation easements. My tasks involve administrative support, outreach and event staffing.

As a swim instructor, I was responsible for teaching children ages 3-15 proper swimming techniques using the Red Cross Levels scheme. I made sure they were enjoying their lessons while going through intricate and well-developed lesson plans.
