The Belladonna* mission is to promote the work of women writers who are adventurous, experimental, politically involved, multi-form, multicultural, multi-gendered, impossible to define, delicious to talk about, unpredictable and dangerous with language. Belladonna* has featured over 150 writers of wildly diverse age and origin, writers who work in conversation and collaboration in and between multiple forms, languages, and critical fields. As performance and as printed text, the work collects, gathers over time and space, and forms a conversation about the feminist avant-garde, what it is, and how it comes to be.

It is a great honor to direct this incredible arts center, focused on a 6 1/2 acre sculpture built in a former bluestone quarry area of the Hudson Valley, as we enter a new and expanded chapter as an organization. I will be working with the Opus 40 board of directors to develop a strategic plan for expansion and renovation, while also running all aspects of daily operation -- including programming, board development, fundraising and financial operations.

I ran this extraordinary Artists' Residency Program and Arts Center on the former property of activist/feminist poet Edna St. Vincent Millay for just over 12 years. Whilst there I developed programming and a range of workshops, ran subject juries, conducted all fundraising and Board Development and, with our Program Manager, launched a multiform program of Arts Education for some 1,000 students in local public schools, and Professional Development programs for area teachers.

I worked with Rebecca Wolff and a group of founding editors on Fence Magazine and Fence books. It was a thoroughly terrific and edifying experience. Those early meetings were tremendously exciting and I enjoyed developing the magazine, the conversation, and our own sensibilities together.
