I am a freelance Ethical Trade Consultant, developing policies and procedures, Codes of Conduct and supporting organisations to integrate best ethical practice. Clients include the Ethical Training Initiative, independent retail and wholesale businesses. Work includes developing an impact assessment and marketing materials on an international training programme for supervisors at factories and farms, developing fair trade policies for businesses and sourcing products from fair trade partners. I tutor and develop a range of courses including Good Ethical Business Practices, Effective Ethical Auditing, How to spot Non-Compliances, Assertiveness & Decision- Making, Business Skills for Managers. I am also a Mentor working privately on a one-to-one basis. I assist community organisations with funding applications, policies, strategic and business development and also carry out monitoring and evaluations to ensure funding criteria are met on a freelance basis

I am a founding Director of Menopause Self Care (MSC) CIC, that was established to support women (and men) in midlife, challenged with health issues and stress, to improve their physical, emotional and mental health. Collectively, the MSC team have produced unbiased comprehensive self-care courses, materials and resources for in-person and online teaching, and one-to-one coaching. MSC focuses on how to proactively improve nutrition, research and make informed life choices, and how to review and express one’s needs in order to access the help and support needed. MSC has worked in partnership with a range of stakeholders including Cornwall Council, Isles of Scilly Council, Active Plus, PLUSS, Job Centre Plus and Cornwall Community Foundation. Over the years we have worked with over 1500 men and women to improve their lives and wellbeing with continuously positive feedback.

I established and run a fair trade crafts and accessories retail and wholesale business, committed to offering the highest quality handmade products, sourced directly from small family businesses and social projects in Peru, Guatemala and El Salvador. Llamarama took over the trading catalogue of Toybox, a registered UK charity and 10% of all sales are donated to Toybox. My role includes all aspects of the business and I work with producers on product design, carrying out training on export processes, quality control and ethical and fair trade.

I ran a charity mailing and distribution business working for health charities distributing medical goods, gifts and information.

My role included business development, marketing, representation and fundraising. I also carried ethical audits of factory and farms across Africa, identified, trained and managed teams of local ethical auditors in Madagascar, Morocco, Mali and Egypt. As part of promoting the ethical business services and our organisational skill base, I represented Africa Now on a number of working groups at the Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI), including national NGO representative at the launch of the ETI Smallholder Guidelines, development of a training of trainers course on Ethical Trade, development of the ETI workbook (a complete guide for companies on ethical trade) and development of a training course for Supervisors. I also represented Africa Now and helped to develop the Local Resources Network, a global network of grassroots ethical auditors. I also conducted occasional academic Masters’ sessions at universities including Oxford Brookes University. Clients included Hallmark, The Waitrose Foundation, Jones, Sears, The Body Shop International, Cadbury Schweppes and Union Coffee Roasters.

I also carried regular project field work, monitoring & evaluating projects and co-investigated and established a new country programme in Zambia. I was also responsible for project replication across programmes.

I worked as a freelance journalist producing articles, reviews, copy as well as some editing work for a range of social and ethical publications including the Ecologist, New Internationalist and GreenScene (a small London based green newspaper). I also worked as a private tutor providing one-to-one tuition of a range of subjects from pre-GCSE to undergraduate.
