About Caroline Kardeby

Driven by a deep curiosity about the pathophysiology of thrombosis, I lead a research group at Aston University, focused on tackling two of society's greatest health challenges: cardiovascular disease and neurodegeneration. My group is a part of the Biosciences Research Group, Aston Research Centre for Health in Ageing (ARCHA), and the Listers Cardiovascular Research Group.My research journey spans over 15 years in cardiovascular science. I'm proud of my track record in successfully planning, managing and executing research projects, as evidenced by 14 peer-reviewed publications. I am the principal investigator of a research group consisting of four group members. My collaborations extend beyond the lab, encompassing a diverse range of partners, including National Health Service (NHS) Trusts like Sandwell & West Birmingham Hospitals NHS Trust and the University Hospitals Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust, research institutions, synthetic chemists, and pharmaceutical companies. I enjoy mentoring junior scientists and students, drawing on my years of teaching experience and official pedagogical training. I believe in effective communication and strive to bridge the gap between scientific complexity and diverse audiences, from patients to policymakers.

'I was the principal investigator of a year project funded by the European Commission and Horizon 2020 to study the role of Platelet Endothelial Aggregation Receptor 1 (PEAR1) in thrombosis and thromboinflammation.The project involves extensive in vitro work using human samples, cell cultures, bacterial cultures, functional testing of cellular responses, the use of novel pharmacological drugs.
