Seasonal Sales AssociateLowe'S Companies, Inc. Apr 2020 - Aug 2020Littleton, Colorado, United StatesThis was a job I picked up during the start of quarantine for several reasons. This was a seasonal role, where I worked in the "seasonal" or Inside Lawn and Garden department. You had to gain a sufficient understanding and knowledge of how the products in this department worked so that you could guide customers to the best of your ability. During situations where I was unsure, I'd always do my best to find the customer an answer or solution to their problem or find someone who could. With this role, you not only respond to customer inquiries, but also assist them in locating, selecting, demonstrating, preparing and possibly loading merchandise. I learned to use heavy machinery to restock or unload products from shelving, all while following proper protocol. Lifting weight 50lbs+, bending, kneeling, standing and moving around all day were often part of the job. -
Fly Fishing Guide/InstructorThe North Fork Ranch Aug 2019 - Oct 2019Shawnee, CoThis is a great a unique opportunity to work with a certified fly fishing guide service. Everyday is something different, and every client is special. I am First Aid and CPR certified. Here you take clients out to fly fish on private water either at the North Fork Ranch or one of the many other properties they have access with. Often times it is not just about the fly fishing alone, or how many fish you catch throughout the day, but creating a memorable experience for everyone. This can come in many different forms!I also assist with the private clinics held at the ranch for those interested in learning more of the basics. There are daily set up and preparations in the morning along with assisting clients to fitted with proper gear/equipment. After the day is done, we then break down and clean up all gear, materials and areas used for the day. We submit invoices and keep track of work related purchases for future documentation and organization.

ServerBistro Roca Jan 2017 - Jul 2017Blowing Rock, North CarolinaOne of the three jobs I was working during this time. A fine dining restaurant, so I was able to learn more extensively about food, wine and liquor pairings and recommendations. This atmosphere is really about creating a good experience for the customers that come in to dine at this restaurant. Daily cleaning, preparation and closing duties, as there would be with any restaurant position. Also dealt with reservations, so timeliness is important. Saw the work that was put in to keep a nice business and place to experience running. Unfortunately had to leave due to moving locations, but have an appreciation for this industry.

ServerTown Tavern Blowing Rock Jan 2017 - Jul 2017Blowing Rock, North CarolinaI worked this job along with two others, so this expanded my ability to manage time and appreciate the real value of a dollar. This was the sister restaurant to River Street Ale House, so I was offered this position to help during their busy season. Same duties as any other server, but no training necessary as I was ready to greet customers and provide them with the best care and service.

ServerRiver Street Ale House Jan 2015 - Jul 2017Boone, North CarolinaI was able to work this job while in college, so learned how to effectively manage my time and responsibilities. Provided excellent customer service and made sure all customers that came in were satisfied to the best of my abilities. I learned to take orders and serve drinks and food in a timely manor. The ability to multi-task is important in a position such as this, so that you can effectively manage several tables at once. We work in a team atmosphere here, so you not only focus on your tables, but help another coworker if they get in the weeds or need any kind of backup. This can be kitchen staff, bartenders or other servers who might need help. After working here for several years you get to understand what it takes to keep a business running ang how to effectively manage staffing and delegate tasks properly. There were always daily cleaning, preparation and closing duties for each employee. It is important to keep these standards up for sanitary and health concerns.

Zookeeper And Education InternConservation Ambassadors Inc May 2016 - Aug 2016San Luis Obispo, California AreaAs an intern I worked as a zookeeper and wildlife educator alongside the year-round employees. I handled and worked directly with many of the exotic species housed at the sanctuary performing daily cleaning and diet routines. We worked with any animals that each required different handling and feeding techniques. Some of these animals included, pythons, turtles, spiders, lemurs, skunks, raptors, eagles, mountain lions, a bear, a tiger, alligators and much more. Alongside the daily routines I also assisted with conservation education talks, presentations and outreach programs as well as training and show preparation. We would travel up to 8 hours in one day, with animals, to give talks on the importance of conservation and how some of these animals came to be house with us. This required a lot of planning in advance to make sure animals had all the living and dietary conditions to be comfortable, along with knowledge and education for each species. I gained experience making travel arrangements, providing care, getting out of my comfort zone in the spotlight with presentations, public speaking and creativity. On days without shows, we worked on building and complex improvements that needed repairs or updates. There would often be long days with work that required lots of physical activity and agility.

Graduate AssistantAppalachian State University May 2015 - Jul 2015Boone, North CarolinaDuring this internship I assisted the professor and graduate student conducting this research project with field surveys, data collection, behavioral assays, and lab work on the threatened bird species Golden-Winged Warblers and Chestnut-Sided Warblers. We hiked on a daily basis to get to the field location and collect data, anywhere from 1-10 miles a day and carrying up to 20lbs per person. On these hikes we located area pin points using GPS tracking and signaling devices. I had to be able to identify specific bird calls in order to find the species we were studying. For this you had to be able to distinguish similar calls from other species nearby in order to locate the correct species and habitat. We used mist-netting to safely capture birds in order to collect data which then included weighing, banding, aging, sex and feather collection of each individual. Alongside the individual bird data we conducted behavioral trials with each species as well. Here we would test behaviors of one species towards another using call, props and identifying what might be aggressive behavior. We worked in collaboration with the Audubon Society and several other organizations on this project.

InternThe Auburn Vet Hospital May 2014 - Jul 2014Sydney, AustraliaThis was an incredible opportunity for me where I traveled abroad and worked in a veterinary practice and gained cultural experience. Here I worked with dogs, cats and birds, both domestic and wild, for boarding, doggy daycare, operations and grooming. One of my main responsibilities was to assist the veterinary surgeon and technicians with surgery, consultations, administrative work, merchandise control, feeding, treatment and other general care of animals. I also helped the nurses set up for surgery such as: setting up equipment, preparing the surgeons table, inserting IV catheters, and preparing an animal for an operation.I assisted with house calls and treatment of animals and learned how to handle difficult or sad situations with owners. There was always cleaning and up-keep that could be done such as washing laundry, sweeping and mopping floors, cleaning surgical equipment, cages and the outside play area. I fed the animals daily, groomed and walked others when necessary. Some of the more apprehensive animals could be difficult so assisted with calming and control. Learned book keeping on many of the supplies that always had to be on hand
