I was born in Wellington, though I spent the majority of my childhood overseas with my parents and lived in Hong Kong, London and Sydney before arriving back on New Zealand shores to begin high school in Wellington. I returned in 2014 from four years in Dunedin where I had completed a Bachelor of Music and a Graduate Diploma in Teaching (ECE) at Otago University.Having always had a passion for working and interacting with young children, I hope to bring my love of music into my practice as I believe children need this medium to express themselves, their emotions or simply to learn about how their body moves. I play the flute, the ukulele, the recorder and a little bit of piano, but nothing beats a good jam on the guitar! Of course, I love to sing as well. In my spare time I love to read, compose music, take photographs and follow sport.

  I bring my love of music into my practice as I believe children need this medium to express themselves, their emotions or simply to learn about how their body moves. I make sure music is part of our daily routine; I play guitar, ukulele, dance music or teach the children new songs.I support the children in their learning and in their social and emotional communications. I set up the environment daily, whether in the morning or in the afternoon, and allow the children to voice what they would like to be put out. I respect children’s backgrounds and their cultures and ensure that this is done within the learning environment in the preschool. I am always interested to see where children’s families come from and which cultures they identify with. I have made sure to acknowledge children’s cultures an as I am interested in languages myself, I make it a point to discuss this with the child, bringing it into their learning and allowing them to feel empowered.I maintain the importance in routines, especially when settling new children. Routines mean familiarity which in turn help children feel safe with the environment, allowing them to have more energy of having fun, playing and learning. I have built and fostered relationships with the staff at Imagine and have partaken in events throughout the year. I communicate with staff daily, whether asking about how they are, what they have been up to, notices about children or communicating ratios and staff tea breaks. I feel it is important to have good rapport with staff as it helps in the running of the centre as a whole; if you get on with each other, you feel more comfortable in bringing up and talking about issues which can then get solved.
