I am passionate about helping others, both on an individual level and through social change. I am especially passionate about mental health awareness and advocacy. I am concerned about the growing homeless population, and recognize the connection between mental health issues and homelessness. My career aspiration involves addressing both of these issues at the root.My current position at Joann Stores allows me to connect to fellow crafters. My role as a customer service provider strengthens my communication and interpersonal skills through interactions with store guests. As a shy introvert, I was previously nervous about interacting with customers, but over the past two years, I have become more confident in my interactions. My position teaches me to be open to learning new things. Customers have asked me questions that I don't know the answer to, and by consulting fellow team members and even other customers, I have learned more about various crafts, which allows me to answer those same questions for other customers.My retail experience brings interactions with difficult customers. I have learned to take it in stride, remaining polite and confident when faced with tough situations. Not every customer will walk away satisfied, but it is always important to try.During my internship with Pink Ribbon Connection, I provided support to breast cancer patients, assisting with bra, prosthetic, and wig fittings. My internship gave me insight on the operations of a small non-profit organization, and I helped out in all areas of the organization, including database entry, fundraiser assistance, finding sponsors, and providing direct support to breast cancer patients. Working at a small nonprofit required me to be flexible and assist with everything across the board.
