It began with my own transformation.I didn’t dream of being an entrepreneur as a child. In fact, if you’d told me a few years ago I’d run my own business, I wouldn’t have believed you.I started my business because I wanted to coach. I was also exhausted from the rat race and wanted to create a career and life on my own terms. Little did I know working for myself would be the biggest and best personal development journey I’ve ever undertaken.Entrepreneurship has forced me to shed layers of self-doubt and fear built up over a lifetime. I learned to trust my intuition. I redefined "success" and completely changed how I view failure. I started writing after almost a 20-year drought. I found the freedom and flexibility I so craved that even the most flexible corporate work arrangement couldn’t provide. I discovered that I could achieve better results with less work. The more I step into what I really want, the more myself I become. And even better opportunities appear.Which is good because my job is helping others see career opportunities they couldn’t even imagine.You don’t need to settle for anything less than 100% of what you want. I made some pretty cool career pivots at Citi. I also developed a keen understanding of what works (and doesn’t) when it comes to taking control of your career. I learned what it meant to be a leader...often the hard way. I made a lot of mistakes...and grew from them.I worked first in HR Shared Services then Anti-Money Laundering.It was at Citi that I learned to deliver a ton of value and ask for what I wanted. And that when you do this, people often give you even more than what you asked for. I worked in Corporate Comms, experienced a start-up environment within the security of a big established organization, and created several bespoke roles that played to my strengths.Yet what I always loved most was helping people grow, contribute, and ultimately get wherever they want to go in their careers.I created several programs focused on career development, career advancement, and mentoring. I met some of the kindest, most generous, highest-caliber leaders of my career at Accenture. They taught me so much through their example. I'm grateful for the experience.I had A LOT to learn, especially in terms of leadership and emotional intelligence. Some lessons took longer than others to sink in.Accenture ingrained in me Project Management and Change Management fundamentals I still use today. There's book knowledge, then there's how to apply that knowledge in the real world when things go pear-shaped. I learned both at Accenture.It was one of my best jobs ever. I was so lucky to have it. My first assignment was in Paris (oui, oui!) because my boss advocated for me to go. I had two amazing bosses and a fantastic team when I was still an intern, so I didn't yet realize how rare that is. Despite this, I knew that consulting wasn't it for me long-term.
