I was responsible for supporting the incredible contributions of BBOWT's 1800+ volunteers, from recruitment through their continuing involvement. I coordinated approximately 30 training courses/year for volunteers, provided advice to volunteer managers, contributed to communications about volunteering and ensured that volunteers were recognised through our annual awards. I delivered introductory training sessions on volunteering for staff and volunteers and a full-day training course on farmland birds. My work also included improving data quality, developing categories and inputting volunteer data in BBOWT's relational CRM, thankQ.

As a not-for-profit organisation, TVERC relies heavily on volunteers and voluntary groups to collect comprehensive wildlife data for all species across Berkshire and Oxfordshire. As Volunteer Coordinator, I developed and implemented revised systems for recruiting and managing volunteers. My role also involved working with voluntary groups to establish an effective dialogue that enabled sharing of data and provided support back to those groups. At our two annual regional conferences, I organised speakers and workshops, developed new ideas and moved one to a more dynamic venue, which is still being used. My responsibilities included developing TVERC services to meet the changing environmental data provision, management and collection needs of local authorities and conservation agencies in Oxfordshire and Berkshire; securing finance and support for TVERC from local authority partners for annual data services and from funding partners and other organisations for project work; and managing projects and coordinating the completion of environmental project work to a high standard and to appropriate deadlines.
