In this role I worked within a small team to evaluate health technology appraisals (HTA) and highly specialised technology appraisals (HST) submitted to the NICE Evidence Review Group (ERG; PenTAG). As a project manager and clinical effectiveness lead, I liaised directly with NICE and the ERG committee during the review process, managed timelines and staff, and I was responsible for the content and quality of the ERG report. Our appraisals of HTA and HST submissions considered the quality and outcomes of the clinical evidence, and the inputs and methodology used to demonstrate cost-effectiveness within NICE requirements.

Project manager for a large international consultancy providing systematic reviewing and health economic modelling to support trial design and HTA submissions. I was the lead client contact, responsible for developing project proposals, timelines, and budgets, managing the technical team, and delivering high quality work to suit the client's objectives.

I worked as a Senior Research Fellow within the National Guideline Centre, based within the Royal College of Physicians, developing evidence-based clinical guidelines for the National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE). Each clinical guideline developed with NICE contains approximately 20 systematic literature reviews of clinical and economic evidence. Each review is tailored to a key issue affecting patient populations and healthcare settings in the UK, and is informed by a range of evidence types including interventional, service delivery, diagnostic, prognostic, patient-reported outcome, and qualitative. As a Senior Research Fellow, I was responsible for the methodology used across the systematic literature reviews, and worked closely with a committee of clinicians, patients and carers to specify research questions, develop review protocols and literature search strategies, devise a strategy for meta-analysis or meta-synthesis, and ultimately to intepret the available evidence into recommendations that would be published within NICE guidelines. NICE guidelines are recognised internationally as the gold standard of evidence-based medicine, and I am proud that the work I completed in this role will have positively affected patient populations both within the UK and abroad.
