• Strategic guidance and oversight to the Africa continental launch of the Education Plus Initiative in the presence of 4 Presidents and representatives of Presidents from 7 other countries, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, UN Under-Secretary Generals and an estimated 200 high-level decision makers. • In 22 months, led and provided oversight for the exponential expansion by 300% of the number of countries committing to the initiative at the highest political levels, from an initial 5 countries to the current 15 countries.• Provided strategic direction and led end-to-end implementation of a global initiative that resulted in policy shifts in 15 champion countries positively impacting at least 35.5 million adolescent girls and young women in these countries.

• Facilitated the participation of the UNFPA Executive Director at the 2020 African Union Heads of State summit, resulting in the execution of 6 bilateral meetings with Presidents and Heads of delegation, as well as participation in 4 very high-level dialogues over two days.• Provided strategic guidance and input to develop African Union strategy documents, including:-The Monitoring and Evaluation framework of the African Union’s 5yr Strategic Plan on Ending Child Marriage (2019-2023); The African Union’s Comprehensive Socioeconomic Response to the COVID-19 Health Pandemic: Caring for Human Security; The revised African Union Campaign on Accelerated Reduction on Maternal Mortality in Africa (CARMMA); African Union Policy Paper on gender-based violence (GBV) in Africa during the COVID19 pandemic; and the Maputo Protocol Scorecard and Index.• Co-led the organization of the youth forum on the margins of the 6th Africa Regional Forum on sustainable development attended by 2000+ participants. Facilitated by the UN Deputy Secretary General (Ms. Amina Mohammed).• Provided key supported to UNFPA programming, UN programming, and national development processes including related to SDG reviews, the General assembly, the High-level Political Forum, ECOSOC, the Commission on the status of Women (CSW), the Commission on Population and Development (CPD), ICPD reviews and Beijing Reviews.• Strategic guidance in intergovernmental processes including: 7th session of the Africa Regional Forum on Sustainable Development; UN-AU Regional Collaborative Platform; Africa Regional Review of LDCs; Conference of Ministers of Finance; Pre-CSW65 Common African Position by AU Ministers of Gender and Women’s Affairs; 37th Session of the African Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACERWC); AU Specialized Technical Committee (STC) on Finance, Monetary Affairs, Economic Planning, and Integration; Government Policy Dialogues on Demographic Diversity and Dividends.

• Led the drafting of the project document for phase II implementation of the ACP-EU Development Minerals Programme that led to the receipt of $10M of funds for project implementation.• Led the execution of an MOU (in partnership with the African Guarantee Fund) that made available $12M in credit guarantee facilities to SMEs (particularly women-owned and women-led) operating in the development minerals sector in Zambia, Cameroon, Guinea, Nigeria, and Uganda.• Developed the formalisation and structured business acceleration strategy currently being implemented in 6 focus countries - Cameroon, Guinea, Uganda, Zambia, Jamaica, and Fiji.• Designed the due diligence checklist that provided guidance on key environmental and social safeguards, including but not limited to environmental and social assessments; labour and working conditions; pollution prevention and risk mitigation; community health and safety.• Provided strategic guidance as Guest Lecturer for a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) on gender and mining in Africa in 2020 organized by UNDP, Swedish Environmental Protection Agency and other partners. Well-received MOOC by the 1,342 course-participants, with a 98.2% satisfaction rate and a completion rate of 3x the industry average.• Developed 4 policy recommendations that were endorsed by the African Union Commission’s first ordinary session of the specialized technical committee on trade, industry, and minerals (STC-TIM) committee for implementation by all 55 member states of the African Union.• Proposed conceptualisation of a curriculum sprint to develop a global-first tailored and quality assured curriculum on development minerals for delivery by universities and research institutions. Adapted for use in 42 universities and research institutions globally.- Co-led the organization of the International Conference on Artisanal and small-scale mining and quarrying (held from 11-13 Sep 2018 in Livingstone, Zambia) with 547 participants from 72 countries.

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

• Directed a gender and mining project in 5 African countries (Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Tanzania and Zambia) that resulted in eleven (11) policy outcomes.• Led the drafting the Outcome Declaration of the Beijing +20 African regional conference adopted by African Ministers of Gender and Women’s Affairs and leveraged in 2015 to bring Africa’s priorities into the global Beijing+20 review and the post-2015 development agenda, which informed the Sustainable Development Goals.• Provided strategic guidance in the development of 4 flagship reports for the UN Economic Commission for Africa, as guidance documents to all African Union member states, including: African Gender Scorecard that is in its seventh year of implementation by all 55 African countries; the Education and Health chapter for the African Gender and Development Index (AGDI) regional synthesis report (2017); Socio-economic impacts of the Ebola Virus Disease in Africa (2016); Human rights of women: violence against women in informal cross-border trade in Africa (2014).

Unhcr

• Initiated and cultivated more than 7 long-running strategic partnerships with both international and national organizations on education, child protection, legal awareness and judicial support, addressing SGBV.• Led the conceptualization, drafting and implementation of various strategies including on -Advocacy and Resource mobilization; -Education strategy targeting early childhood, primary, secondary and university education as well as vocational and skills training for the youth, women-at-risk of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and persons with specific needs; -Sexual and Gender-based Violence; and -Community watch initiatives.• Undertook capacity building of more than 500 diverse staff and stakeholders including UNHCR, partner and government officials; judiciary, police and the refugee community.• Trained 300+ UNHCR and implementing partner staff as well as government officers on best interest determination (a key element of child protection programming).• Ensured that all 8 camps and 1 urban location had revised and functional Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the prevention and response to incidents of SGBV and that the referral pathway was in use for UNHCR Ethiopia.• Successfully initiated a community watch initiative in 7 camps in Ethiopia, with specific terms of reference and a code of conduct as a strategy to prevent and respond to SGBV.

• Strategic input into 2 Sessional papers from the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology and the Ministry of labour and human resource development, Kenya.• Mobilized and ensured the formation of a District Child Labor Committee comprising of Senior government officials in the district, and a Local Child labor Committee comprising of local leaders, teachers, parents and community opinion leaders in several districts in Kenya. • Co-facilitated trainings for 200 teachers on LITE (Learner Inclusive Teacher Efficient) teaching methods, psychosocial skills, HIV/AIDS, life skills and value-based education.• Trained more than 300 parents, teachers and community leaders on the UNCRC, ACRWC, ILO Conventions 182 and 138; trained at least 100 students as peer counsellors in order to operationalize a peer-to-peer child monitoring system.
