In 2012, CGGC along with jewellers from South Wales, exhibited as ACJ Wales (The Association for Contemporary Jewellery) at Oriel Ynys Môn, Llangefni in Anglesey. This Christmas exhibition ‘Sparkle | Disglair’ was extremely well received and was the success needed to move CGGC onto a formal footing in 2013.We have received Arts Council Wales funding to create a website to show case members work and to exhibit and launch the group at The National Eisteddfod of Wales. CGGC provide a support network for jewellers and silversmiths in the North Wales area. Networking activities include sharing tools, ideas, and knowledge, planning training courses with each other and taking advantage of larger exhibition and marketing opportunities. Some members are recent graduates and benefit from meeting with more experienced members of the group. CGGC actively seek new members from other exhibitions, craft fairs and by word of mouth.

Eleven MJN members interpreted eleven articles from the UDHR to create unusual, individual and often personal jewellery pieces. The exhibition is touring in 2013, beginning at Oriel Davies in Powys in November.The exhibition launched at the Royal Exchange Theatre Mezzanine Gallery in 2009 on July 1st until Aug 21st, and toured within the UK, the last showing was at Kulturgeschichtliches Museum, Osnabruck, Germany – 2nd February – 5th April 2012.The jewellery is supported by a photography exhibition by Jonothan Keenan, showing shots of the work worn on the body. Taking a journalistic stance the photographs show the pieces in context, challenging and prompting the viewers response around common human rights issues.MJN decided to undertake this significant project, following the 2008 60th Anniversary of the UDHR. Supported by the Arts Council England, this unique exhibition takes a fresh look at the concept of Campaign Jewellery and embodies the potential to educate and raise awareness of Human Rights. Historically, jewellery is not just worn for the decoration and adornment of the wearer but deliberately carries symbolic significance to show marks of allegiance, political, religious or ethical persuasions to challenge the viewer.MJN have taken the right to express themselves and challenge through the unusual medium of art jewellery, provoking the viewer’s responsibility to a fairer world.We are working on the further development of this project exploring collaborations with CGGC to complete the remaining 19 articles of the UDHR so that each is represented by a different jeweller.

Oriel Ynys Mon

I designed the exhibition concept around the theme of Christmas presents, each jeweller displayed work in perspex cubes. There was a large space to fill and to carry the theme through out the gallery we used silver ribbon and white fairy lights to give a subtle and contemporary festive feel. I managed the groups finance, and co-ordinated delivery of items, oversaw set up and take down of the exhibition.

I was responsible for all aspects of production; arranging auditions, booking presenters, schedules, managing budgets, tracking expenses and dealing with clients through the production and integration of their online videos.
