About Carolle Alarcon

Carolle was born in 1987, in the city of São Paulo. She holds a Master's degree in Tropical Forestry from the Technical University of Dresden, where she received a scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD); and a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Management from the Higher School of Agriculture "Luiz de Queiroz", University of São Paulo. Her research interests include the fields of land use allocation and deforestation in frontier areas. From 2010 to 2016, Carolle carried out several works for institutions operating in the Brazilian Amazon (such as Idesam, Mamirauá, FAS, CIFOR and Imazon) focusing on protected areas, governance, participatory diagnosis, conflict management agreements for the use of common-pool resources (especially fishing), stakeholder engagement, advocacy and public policy monitoring. After her master's degree, in 2019, she received a scholarship from the Carlo-Schmid Program, also from DAAD, for Internships in International Organizations. The program selects outstanding students who have just completed their master's degree in Germany to work and become familiar with international institutions, thus expanding their intercultural skills. Through the program, Carolle worked at UNESCO in Kathmandu, supporting the initiatives of the Man and Biosphere Program. After a break for maternity leave, Carolle began working in 2020, for IUCN as technical coordinator of the Amazon 2.0 project, in Brazil. In 2022, Carolle also acquired the responsibility of focal point for Brazil and Colombia of the Forest Landscape Restoration Hub project. Since October 2022, she works for the Brazilian Coalition for Climate, Forest and Agriculture, first as Advocacy Coordinator and since March 2024 as Executive Manager. Carolle has lived in Brazil - in São Paulo, Piracicaba, and a few cities in the Amazon such as Manaus, Tefé, Fonte Boa, and Belém - in Germany, Nepal, and Switzerland.
