The Minnesota Medical Association is a non-profit Professional association representing over 10,000 physicians in Minnesota.

Direct and manage three free standing Emergency Departments with a patient volume of 85,000 per year and growing at a rate of 10% per year. Responsibilities include budgeting, supply chain management, facility management, lab and radiology professionally managing recruiting, hiring and staffing physicians, APCs, nurses, medics, lab and front desk staff.• Manage an annual budget of $28M and a staff of 150 physicians, nurses, paramedics, radiology, laboratory and administrative staff• Develop and implement growth strategy and marketing including television appearances, print ads, billboards and blogging. • Develop clinical protocols and staff education programs for clinicians, nurses, medics, and APCs• Develop hospital and clinic partnerships – for example, working with several independent medical groups in the Twin Cities to develop an insurance package with a fixed basket of costs to decrease pricing variability• Develop and implement quality improvement programs including, improved times to the heart catheterization lab and time to stroke treatment for patients presenting to the UR, streamlining stress tests and holter monitor follow ups, decreasing opiate prescriptions by 20%, decreasing inappropriate antibiotic use by 60%, ability to directly schedule appointments with our independent partners in GI, ENT, EYE and Dermatology• Reduced total variable costs by 2% despite 10% volume growth year over year through more aggressive supply chain management and materials management• Pharmaceutical management and formulary development• Laboratory menu and compliance with COLA

Provide emergency care in high acuity, high volume environments including Methodist Hospital, Unity Hospital and The Urgency Room. Supervised and educated both family and emergency medicine residents as well as Nurse Practitioner and Physician Assistant students.

Managed Urgency Room in Woodbury, MN, one of the 3 freestanding Emergency Departments owned and operated by EPPA. Responsibilities included:• Played an integral part in opening 2nd and 3rd freestanding Emergency Departments in Eagan and Vadnais Heights, MN• Managed physicians, APCs, nurses and medics• Provided emergency coverage• Managed laboratory menu and compliance• Developed and implemented clinical protocols for nurses and paramedics• Developed relationships with primary care and referral clinics• Created and delivered staff education for clinicians and clinical staff• Developed strategy for growth and marketing• Addressed patient complaints

developed and implemented several projects to improve quality, including decreasing 30 day readmissions, decreasing the use of foley catheters in the Emergency department, decreasing admissions for chronic pain, decreasing unnecessary admissions for chest pain, developing a chronic pain policy, and improving outpatient compliance with stress testing. Developed content, lectured and organized outside speakers for 16 hours of CME per year for physicians. Developed a two-day Certified Emergency Nursing course to improve nursing education within the emergency department which has been given 4 times over the past four years. Developed content, lectured and organized outside speakers for two-day emergency conference in Two Harbors, MN in 2013.

Serve on the Board of Directors of a Medical professional liability insurance provider operating in 11 states, with $132M in direct written premium and $709M in assets. In addition to duties required as a Board Member, I sit on both the Claims committee and Finance committee and am working with the CMO to develop physician facing programs to improve physician communication.
