Carolynn King Richmond has been the President and CEO of MicroSociety, Inc since 2001 and is responsible for positioning the organization as a nationally recognized reform initiative, supporting the development and implementation of effective 21st Century learning. MicroSociety® outperforms other models in areas with similar demographics and challenges in terms of standardized tests, attendance, behavior and a wide range of skills development necessary for children and youth to succeed in a global economy.Under her leadership, the organization has initiated several breakthroughs in curriculum design and assessment and has grown from a handful of sites on the east coast to a network of several hundred schools and out-of-school time programs in over 40 states. What began as a rudimentary classroom experience has grown into a complex system of school-based industry, government and service that children grow organically over time. She co-authored the original MicroSociety Handbook with founder, Dr. George Richmond and grew the model into a nationally recognized and federally approved reform model that, at its core, champions the empowerment of children to take responsibility for their learning. In 2006, MicroSociety was named one of the two best educational programs for elementary schools in the nation by Thomas Armstrong in his book, The Best Schools. Ms. Richmond has consulted with city, school, district, and community organization, and government officials regarding violence prevention, personal asset creation and economic development, program design, and staff training through the creation of innovative learning environments that motivate and accelerate achievement. Ms. Richmond earned her Bachelor’s degree from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, Masters in Education from Harvard University's Graduate School of Education, and her Juris Doctorate degree from Villanova University.
