I am actively teaching and coordinating a Clinical Research Nursing and Coordinator Program at UAB School of Nursing and School of Education which is increasing in enrollment. We have three pathways: CRM Certificate (Post Baccalaureate) which is 18 hrs; MSN/CRM- focusing clinical research management for nurses and MS/CRM- combining clinical research and community health education in a Master's for non-nurses. In this distance-education offering, students from a variety of areas in the U.S. (and elsewhere) are fully engaged and enjoying the experience and are finding job opportunities in clinical research through the adult learning online networking available in the courses.I am also involved in global work, including expanding our global clinical research training initiatives at UAB. We are completing a Fogarty grant, teaching 150 clinical researchers from 50 countries using distance-education technology. I recently was able to participate in a workshop with Cayetano University in Lima, PERU- a clinical research training event. We offer a superior international distance education training program (36-weeks in length) that links study coordinators with experienced coordinator/facilitators to expand learning across cognitive, psychomotor and affective domains that builds capacity for participants individually and branches out to their research sites.I am also enjoying intensive work with the CoAPCR and IACRN in developing Core Competencies for Clinical Research Coordinators AND Scope and Standards for Clinical Research Nurses- for submission to the American Nurses Association.
