Named one of the Most Influential Women in Travel in 2023 by TravelPulse, Carolyn Ray took over JourneyWoman in 2019, continuing the legacy started by Evelyn Hannon, who created the world's first solo travel resource for women in 1994. We are inspired to make our world a better place, with an emphasis on safe, sustainable, equitable and accessible travel for all women. JourneyWoman also provides research and consulting services to companies who want to authentically connect with women over 50. In 2024, JourneyWoman celebrates its 30th anniversary and launched the JourneyWoman Awards to honour women over 50 in travel. In 2021, Carolyn expanded JourneyWoman's long-standing Women's Travel Directory to include the world's largest searchable marketplace for women-friendly tours, retreats, accommodations and small ships. In June 2023, to further amplify women's voices, she welcomed the award-winning Soul of Travel Podcast to the JourneyWoman family. In August 2023, she launched the industry's first Women's Speaker's Bureau to address the lack of inclusion and diversity in the travel industry. She is the Chair of the Society of American Travel Writers in Canada, on the Board of Directors for the Cultural Heritage Economic Alliance (CHEA) representing Black Tourism entrepreneurs, a Transformational Travel Herald and a member of Women Travel Leaders.
