I work in the Technical Communication program at the Polytechnic campus of Arizona State University. As a scholar working at the intersections of the technical communication and business communication disciplines, my work focuses on the impact that emerging technologies have on professional activity. My research, teaching, and service each promote effective and ethical use of technologies in varied professional settings for a wide array of audiences. My current research investigates effective use of the crowdfunding platform Kickstarter, social media in technical communication, and the emergence of artificial intelligence tools in business communication. I also have published on disciplinarity, communication in video games, and mobile phones in the workplace. My most recently developed class, Digital Ethics in Internet Governance and Policy, investigates ethical structures surrounding development and maintenance of the internet that make professionals' online work possible. In addition, I run the music blog Independent Clauses and co-host the Winning Slowly podcast (on indefinite hiatus). I am also a former professional editor, writer, and consultant.
