About Francesco Carrara

Francesco Carrara received the Laurea degree in electrical engineering (cum laude) and Ph.D. degree in electronics and automation engineering from the University of Catania, Catania, Italy, in 1999 and 2003, respectively. From 2003 to 2011, he worked for Academia holding the positions of Research Assistant Professor at the University of Catania and Adjunct Professor at the University Kore of Enna, Enna, Italy, and the Scuola Superiore di Catania, teaching electronics classes for graduate programs. Meanwhile, he collaborated with the Radio Frequency Advanced Design Center (RF-ADC), a joint research center supported by the University of Catania and STMicroelectronics, Catania, Italy, where he was mainly involved in the design and development of RF transceivers for cellular, WLAN and WSN applications. In 2011 he moved to Semiconductor Industry by joining STMicroelectronics as a Member of Technical Staff, working in the field of RFIC design for wireless infrastructure. In 2014 he joined Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., San Diego CA, USA, where he is now Design Leader in the development of next-generation 5G NR sub-6 GHz PA modules.Francesco Carrara is co-author of more than 60 papers in international journals and conference proceedings. His main research interests include high-efficiency power amplifier design, VSWR-protection techniques, and silicon devices for wireless communications. He holds several international patents.Technical skills:- Inclination towards innovative circuit and system solutions. Proven ability in successful development from new idea conception to practical implementation (including commercial products, patents, and scientific publications).- 20 years experience on RFIC design, layout, and testing in GaAs, SiGe, and SOI/bulk CMOS technologies.- Management of design teams to the accomplishment of complex design targets/architectures .- Teaching experience in both graduate and postgraduate programs.
