As an independent clinical consultant, I assist health care organizations with perioperative staff development needs or regulatory agency visit readiness via short-term consultation or on a contract basis. I also consult with multi-hospital health systems to systemize perioperative clinical orientation programs.

Operating room agency staff - Touro Infirmary, New Orleans, LA

As a national Board Member elected by the members of AORN, I ensured successful implementation of the organization’s strategic plan by establishing goals and objectives, collaborated with the Board on the direction and vision for the organization through deliberation and policy development, and demonstrated accountability to the general membership for competent, conscientious, and effective accomplishment of its obligations.

As interim OR educator, I was responsible for the restructuring of annual OR staff competencies for nurses, surgical technologists, nursing assistants, and anesthesia technicians. I also collaborated with an interdisciplinary committee to address Leapfrog Inpatient Surgery Criteria and patient harm reduction related to surgical complications, contributed to the selection of new products as a clinical resource to the Perioperative Services value analysis team, coordinated education and training on new equipment and supplies with staff and physicians, implemented a revised orientation program for new hire staff nurses and collaborated with the Nursing Education Department to integrate perioperative nursing into the nurse residency program, led crew resource management training and consulted with Staff Development leaders on potential ways to improve course delivery, and revised operating room policies and procedures and coordinated related education with staff and physicians.

At UMCNO I developed, designed, and implemented structured orientation programs for surgical technologists and nurses, coordinated education and training on new equipment, supplies, and processes related to opening a new hospital, collaborated with department leadership to develop new operating room policies and procedures, and revised existing policies to meet current standards of practice. I also supported implementation of operating room quality and patient safety goals, policies, procedures, and activities designed to meet the requirements of regulatory and accrediting agencies. Note: University Medical Center New Orleans is the former Interim LSU Hospital.

Hospital is now called University Medical Center New Orleans. Circulated all specialties in a Level 1 Trauma Center.

At Ochsner Kenner I circulated all specialties including general, gynecologic, orthopedic, cardiovascular, peripheral vascular, and urologic surgery as well as cystoscopic and endoscopic procedures. I also collaborated on the development of nursing practice improvement initiatives as well as clinical ladder implementation as a member of the Professional Practice Council and helped lead the operating room and endoscopy electronic medical record (EMR) conversion to Epic as a super user.
