I incorporate a broad array of tools in phylogenomics, bioinformatics, morphometrics, field studies and systematics to understand species relationships in plants, the evolution of floral traits, plant pollinator interactions, and population dynamics of rare plant species. I am committed to the conservation of biodiversity and rare plants.Responsible for preparation of grant proposals, planning and conduction of fieldwork, report preparation, budget management, training and mentoring of student and interns, dissemination of research through publishing of scientific papers and presentations at professional meetings, coordination of exhibits in the botanic garden, and engaged in outreach initiatives. Research Projects include: (1) Understanding floral trait evolution in Justicia (Acanthaceae) and examining species relationships using RADseq data, micro-morphology, and comparative methods (NSF funded) (2) Biogeographical patterns and diversification rates in plant species (3) Evolution of floral color in plant species: Quantifying floral spectral reflectance data and examining evolutionary patterns using RADseq data (4) Elucidating relationships among major genera in Justicieae (Acanthaceae).

Teaching Bio44. Intro to Biology and Lab - curriculum concentrated in evolution, organismal biology and ecology.

Designed lab curriculum for an upper level Plant Anatomy and Morphology lab. Responsible for lab lectures and exam development.

Conducted educational tours of the park for grades K-7.Participated in ecological restoration of the Nine Mile Run Project including: plant invasive species control and native plant conservation.Coordinated volunteer programs and projects.Designed a native plant coloring book for the center.
