Carrie Smith is an accomplished banking and finance professional with more than 20 years’ experience with top lending institutions. She joined Wells Fargo Capital Finance (WFCF) in 2008 as an Operations Manager and was promoted to National Operations Manager in 2011. Her responsibilities included reconciliations, treasury operations, operations risk, UK operations, loan closing, and client set up for a $500B annual loan business with high levels of monetary and risk exposure. She led a staff of 50 across six teams supporting asset based lending, factoring, front office, middle office, and back office departments.As National Operations Manager and Operations Manager, Ms. Smith played a key role in multiple bank-wide initiatives, including the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) project, WFCF UK acquisition and integration, reconciliations offshoring effort, and two-year Wachovia integration. During the FATCA project, she identified an opportunity to centralize tax form validation and reporting to a central group, reversing the decision to place tax reporting responsibility with the LOB. In addition, she led key efforts to automate processes for increased productivity and accuracy.Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Ms. Smith enjoyed a successful nine-year career with Bank of America. In 2007, she was promoted to Group Operations for Retail Finance, responsible for $50B in annual loans and $7.7B in Bank Total Risk Exposure. As LOB representative for a bank-wide tax remediation project, she drastically reduced risk exposure from $6M to $40K by addressing process gaps and documentation shortcoming. Additionally, she represented the LOB on PIMS to ECRIS UAT testing and user training and a bank-wide Six Sigma Green Belt project.
