Our news site rounds up reports from a large array of sources and present a digest to keep busy people up to date on what's happening. We use a "solutions journalism" approach, finding hope in stories of people building climate resilience, without sugar-coating the seriousness of the problem. We also do research studies on public policy.

I retired in May 2022 from my longtime position as a tenured professor in the Tim Russert Department of Communication at John Carroll University, a Jesuit liberal arts college in University Heights, Ohio, near Cleveland. I taught Journalism; Communication Law; Communication Technology & Society, Mass Media & Society, Editing & Design; Health & Environmental Writing; Media Literacy; Politics, Public Policy & the Media; Social Issues in Journalism; Multimedia News Reporting and a linked course in Climate Change (featuring two courses: one physics and one journalism, with another professor teaching the physics).

The chapter has about 60 members and is among the nation's strongest SPJ chapters, so I was especially proud to be president of the chapter in 2011-12 and again in 2017-18.

Student-led group that meets biweekly to discuss journalism issues, organize programs and participate in journalism-related events.

This active group puts on environmental programs and publicizes environmental issues on campus. In 2013, they nominated me as Advisor of the Year, an award that I won on their recommendation.

Advised the new editor-in-chief and assistant on AP style, headline writing and page layout; helped with proofreading the final edition, etc. After the first year I did workshops for new editors and edited stories myself. I served on the professional advisory board for several years, leaving only when I undertook a research project involving this newspaper and had to step aside from active involvement.

Copy-edited two academic books by Canadian communications scholars Vincent Mosco and Catherine McKercher: "Knowledge Workers in the Information Society" (Lexington Books, 2007) and "The Laboring of Communication" (Lexington Books, 2008). I taught basic reporting courses for five and a half years (11 semesters), and a specialized, social issues reporting course for three semesters (1.5 years), in Carleton's highly regarded School of Journalism. This teaching was based on a 15-year career as a reporter and editor, 12 of those at a daily metropolitan newspaper, the Ottawa Citizen.
