The national broadcaster provides high quality programming, independent news, information and content that enrich Australian communities. As part of the ABC Local Radio network, 720 Perth Afternoons offers a blend of music, news and interviews from Perth and around the world. With presenters ranging from seasoned ABC staff and those new to the program and the organisation, this role was continually changing. As one producer for the only daily, two hour program, a key focus was time management. Other challenges were the need to be highly responsive to breaking news, keeping a vigilant eye out for potential on-air glitches or last minute changes to the line-up.Overseeing the daily production of the Afternoons program from conception to on air and supporting the presenter, required the ability to be adaptable, highly organised, have a keen eye for emerging trends and topics and draw these insights into developing compelling stories.In this role I increased ratings from 3.2% to 7.4% working closely with management and the presenter to deliver stability, ensuring accurate timely news reporting and improving the content and delivery quality of regular features.
