Worked with a local land trust to research an issue of ecological importance and gave recommendations. Examined the presence of invasive woody shrub species on conserved land; designed an experiment, collected and analyzed field data with GIS, and wrote a report to inform future land management decisions. This experience taught me how to manage my time and find outside resources to complete a large research project of my own design.

Responsible for independently completing experiments and data analysis for research projects that contributed to a larger investigation of the neurological mechanisms behind colitis and intestinal ulceration. Second author of a peer-reviewed research paper published in the March 2010 issue of The Journal of Physiology. This experience taught me how to conduct research at a professional level and valuable skills in the field of neuroscience.
