I have worked as a consultant with congregations facilitating their creation of a narrative for their future as well as guiding them through the process of transition from one installed pastor to their next installed pastor. In addition, I have done conflict management work as part of my interim ministry that seeks to understand patterns of congregational conflict, how one conflict influences future conflicts in their history, and how to begin making changes to prevent future conflicts from occurring or escalating from disagreements to level 3 or 4 conflicts. This narrative change process was the subject of my academic study, interim ministry experience and training that I used to create a new path for congregations doing mission studies. This focuses less on filling out questionnaires and timelines and more on telling the stories of the congregation using open-ended questions and retreats that form the basis for a congregational narrative that looks back, speaks about has been learned and locating the congregation within the biblical narrative leading to an identity statement that speaks about "why" a particular church was gathered by God and continues to be sustained by God.Additionally, I use servant-leadership materials and leaders as the congregation's immune system against the virus of intense anxiety leading to conflict.
