Downtown Silver Spring Club (Friday Am) Eggspectations

Officially chartered in January of 2016, the Downtown Silver Spring (DTSS) Rotary club officially united 28 service-oriented community leaders under the motto, "Service above self." This year, our club has organized and galvanized around our commitment to literacy as an imperative need withing our local community. The club's focus on improving literacy outcomes for youth living in low-income communities was unanimous. Thus, the club created our first signature service project - Storytown. In partnership with Montgomery Knowles Elementary School in Silver Spring, MD, the DTSS Rotary Club has created a free library that inspires the magic of reading for elementary students. Storytown is just one of many examples of the ways this group of local heroes gives back and supports their local community.

Youth & Family Services is a multidisciplinary, community-oriented, and culturally-informed combination of programs and initiatives to achieve social service, mental health, and youth development outcomes for 3,700+ clients annually. Over the past three-years, our team has increased annual operating budget and service to community while improving operating efficiency. This has been accomplished through the strengthening of organizational infrastructure and re-engineering of processes to secure and manage our programs and services.Youth & Family Services has established relationships, developed campaigns & launched capacity building strategies to raise unrestricted individual and foundation gifts, cultivate a spirit of altruism/philanthropy, and accountability among our partners, staff and Board/committee volunteers.Most recently, our team has grown our branch Board of Managers from 3 to 13 volunteers by implementing committee structure, valuing diversity, outlining responsibilities, and creating meaningful volunteer opportunities. Youth & Family Services is supported by a culturally diverse staff of 60+ YMCA professionals who's passion for their work is unrivaled.

The Montgomery County Commission on Children and Youth (CCY) is a committed volunteer group of 27 members comprised of youth, parents, and child-serving professionals. It is charged with advising the County Executive and County Council, the Department of Health and Human Services and the Board of Education on the development of coordinated community and government policies, programs and services which support children, youth and families. It also works to provide effective public information on children’s programs and services in the County.The Commission on Children and Youth promotes the well-being of Montgomery County’s children, youth and families so that all young people may realize their full potential and become contributing, productive adults.The Commission advances its mission by: (1) identifying the needs of young people and their families, and the groups and agencies that serve them; (2) informing and advising the County Executive, the County Council, the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Board of Education (BOE) and the community at large; (3) recommending policies, programs, funding and legislative priorities; and (4) affirming the needs, aspirations and achievements of all the County’s young people.
