Explaining concepts to others whether to help facilitate their roles or achieve their goals is very important to me.At HDI we nurture a high performance culture where producing good results in a collaborative environment is key. As someone who loves meeting people, I feel most at home when interacting with the team, building their trust, and ensuring input of the whole group is valued.But, what is success? What are “good” results? For me, it is about exceeding goals that are independent of financial performance. Are our stakeholders happy – our clients, our colleagues, our board? What feedback are we getting? These are the things that matter.To achieve all this I endeavour to provide psychological safety for my team by establishing an atmosphere of open and honest feedback in both directions. Inclusion leads to stronger performance. Because the risks are individual and complex, our sector will always need underwriters with experience and expertise. That said, modern computer processing power with more intelligent analytics and machine learning techniques will help us make better and more data driven decisions, based on evidence. Our methodologies are becoming rapidly more sophisticated. Being a data-driven person, I am personally excited by this development and doing everything to support it.One of the things I am most proud of is being part of our recent company-wide transformation program where, as part of the Portfolio Steering Group, I defined the requirements and developed new processes that impacted our KPIs, people, and technology which fed into a knowledge exchange community that transcended historical siloes, build new best practices, and brought the whole program to life.
