As a board member, I assist in guiding the direction of this research by providing the student's perspective as we look towards creating policies that support equitable and sustainable changes.

Aug 2021 - Present

Student Researcher

Developing computational tools to study emergent quantum gravity on simplicial complexes with Dr. Kassahun Betre. I worked to develop various tools in Wolfram Mathematica to support Dr. Betre's research. Primarily I worked on multiple algorithms used to generate simplicial complexes with the given constraint that the graph must be pure; meaning all the facets have the same cardinality. I first defined helper functions to support some of the larger processes in the generation of this subset of simplicial complexes. I the assisted in defining algorithms to generate these graphs randomly as well as all graphs of a specific facet cardinality. I then used my expertise in software development to optimize legacy code developed before I joined the research team.

President

San Jose, California, United States

As President I lead the revival of this cube satellite development student organization after the COVID-19 pandemic. In this role I determined the direction for the club and set specific and attainable goals to guide our direction. Specifically, I selected an approachable yet rewarding can satellite project for new younger members to take part in. I also planned and led a recruitment season that grew membership from roughly 5 to 15 individuals. Additionally, I orchestrated a 3-part professional speaker series which had NASA employees come talk to the club about their experiences and internship opportunities for members. Aside from this I handled club logistics including funding, meeting planning and organization, and officer selection. I also participated in the software team.

Jan 2021 - Dec 2022

Space Communications Intern

I developed a functional prototype for an application layer messaging service intended for lunar communications. In order to develop this prototype I first had to formulate the project by creating a scenario that would accurately model the operating environment of a communication network with the lunar surface. I met with user stakeholders to discuss their intended use cases and modeled a scenario based on these conversations.Next, I constructed a virtual networking testbed using 6 virtual machines. Each virtual machine acted as a node is the scenario I created and would run the messaging application. To increase fidelity, I added realistic data loss and interface delay for better simulation results. Finally, I programmed the messaging application and associated message handle protocols. This messaging application could communicate over delay tolerant networks using the bundle protocol as well as over traditional IP networks. The completed prototype consisted of 1000+ lines of C++ code.

Jun 2023 - Aug 2023

Nasa Scan Intern

SUMMER 2022I designed an operational demonstration for a cube satellite experiment that highlights the proposed Lunar communication architecture; LunaNet.Project LROND: Lunar Relay Operational Network Demonstration is an experiment designed to model a real world operational scenario of LunaNet. I performed a pre-formulation study for LROND in which I defined the core mission concept and selected the key LunaNet features to demonstrate, including Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking (DTN). To perform this study, I first met with key stakeholders including the architects behind LunaNet as well as the TES-n Nanosatellite workshop team at NASA Ames Research Center. From these cross center, collaborative meetings I defined a baseline LunaNet demonstration according to the technical constraints of a cube satellite and the experimental constraints from the LunaNet team. I later presented this experimental mission concept to the stakeholders, where in which I received approval to continue defining the mission in more detail.FALL 2022I continued working on the pre-formulation study for LROND and added details on the implementation of the DTN experiment component. To complete this task I researched various bundle protocol implementations and selected one to be used within the demonstration. After this I designed in detail the operational concept for the DTN experiments of LROND and presented my work to a team of experts in a series of design review meetings. To end out my internship, I compiled all of my work from June to December into a cohesive PowerPoint presentation that outlined the purpose and goals for the LunaNet Relay Operational Network Demonstration. This 40 slide presentation offered a visual rendition of the pre-formulation. Additionally, I constructed it in such a way that future NASA interns may be able to pick up from where I left off and continue working on this project in coming intern sessions.

Aug 2020 - Dec 2021

Nasa Scan Intern

I upgraded a network simulator toolkit by adding functional support for Delay/Disruption Tolerant Networking according to the latest standards. This simulator toolkit is used to support the development of network architectures for future communication networks around the moon.Additionally, I organized and facilitated virtual networking social for the intern cohort. This social created a space for interns to build stronger connections with each other despite the virtual nature of the internship. Through this, we were able to explore similar interests outside of the immediate work for our respective internship projects.I also collaborated with the African American Advisory Committee and the Office of STEM engagement to brainstorm ideas to improve the intern program for underrepresented groups.
