Event Coordinator
CurrentI was very excited to get to be a part of the growth of this newly launched independent bookstore in my town. In addition to occasional work in the store, I am thrilled to be able to work with small local businesses, authors, and all kinds of other people to put on events that develop a community around our space. It has been such a privilege to get to live my values and expand my skillset through this role.
Administrative Assistant
Provided administrative support to the Office of Events and Programming.
Operations Manager
Over six months in 2021, I managed hiring 4 positions, implemented a new employee review process, led a transition from one customer intake system to a new one, and provided stop-gap support during a scaling and hiring period.I continue to maintain a relationship with Sagewell for ad hoc requests.
Quality Improvement Coordinator
Joining Upstream provided an exciting opportunity to work directly with contraceptive access by providing existing health centers with patient-centered, evidence-based training and technical assistance that eliminate barriers to offering the full range of contraception. During my time there I supported a small team to initiate our work with one of the area’s largest hospital systems. This included project management, program development and adherence, documentation and communications. Additionally, I supported internal activities by serving as a Salesforce Super User, providing peer support, providing customized trainings, and testing new features. The Upstream program was new to North Carolina, affording many opportunities to support internal operations as we grew and adapted, especially once the Pandemic began.
Development Operations Manager
I joined Rise Against Hunger to support its development/fundraising team through data analytics, project management, needs assessments, and process improvements. I worked particularly closely with our Finance and IT teams concerning the architecture of our Salesforce instance and general data governance efforts. Occasionally I helped donors and volunteers directly to problem solve challenging situations. I also on-boarded new staff to our team, led team building activities, and supervised an administrative assistant.
Project Coordinator
In 2012, I joined the MITEI team as a temp to assist with a single fall conference. After that event and the rest of our fall event season was over, I was hired permanently as a Program Support Specialist with new assignments on non-event related projects. I was then promoted to Project Coordinator about a year and a half later, to take on more leadership responsibilities. My favorite work included assembling and leading teams. I loved supervising our college student co-ops and mentoring them on their career growth. I believe that a leader's job is to help people do their tasks well and happily, so I sought to learn what motivates a person and what they enjoy, so that I can better determine the best way to include them in a team or project. I also focus on making sure everyone feels supported by their teammates so that challenges are not overwhelming and overcoming those challenges is more satisfying. My most constant project was working with the US Department of Energy and their Ambassador Cohort of (mostly female) leaders in the Energy Industry to execute the Clean Energy Education and Empowerment (C3E) Symposium each year. I was able to watch this event grow from an unknown, brand new conference to a successful annual event with guests eagerly returning each year. This gave me the opportunity to apply my passion for gender equality and contribute to a real world effort to promote women within a STEM industry.I also enjoyed every opportunity to evaluate and improve upon our organizational behavior and environment. My focus has often been on making resources more available and reliable. This led to my second most constant project, which was to first improve, then overhaul, our informational database. This allowed me to work with almost every part of the MITEI team to discover their needs and how they would most effectively use a new database. I even built temporary Filemaker Pro databases to test ideas out before the new system would become fully operational.
