After spending a year working on the creation of two major products, Clevest has seen more sales in its latest quarter than all of the previous four quarters. The two products are a workforce management system's mobile client and dispatcher's web application. I concentrated on the dispatcher's application but both programs were made with collaboration of the company's creative director and, of course, the talented software development staff.The dispatcher application has an HTML5 foundation, backed with Microsoft's dot-net technology implemented with C#, SQL Server and ESRI ArcGIS. The application attracts considerable attention at trade shows and is judged to be clearly ahead of its competition. The mobile client reinforces this forward-looking user experience by providing information in an intuitive manner when needed, even when used out of contact of cellular services.Work continues on these products, and I'm lucky to be working with such a fine group of people.

Led the adaptation of the product’s server software to different platforms or third-party upgrades. This included moving to 64-bit compatible code and supporting the change from PA-RISC to Itanium processors on Hewlett-Packard platforms.Investigated and corrected product defects affecting first-tier customers or critical baseline components. My involvement concentrated on higher priority issues.Refactored code, using better algorithms and data structures, to increase system performance. This removed a critical obstacle to increasing the product’s maximum workforce capacity.Interviewed candidate new hires for technical or development positions.

Developed four computer language courses (C introduction, C++ intermediate & advanced, C# for the .NET framework) for the part-time studies program. Substituted for instructors as required for courses on database design, Java and object-oriented programming.

Designed a product’s switched-circuit tracking application software from the concept stage through its creation to the completion of pre-shipment testing. This application was implemented largely in Java using an Oracle database with PL/SQL procedures, some C++ and csh programming were also used.Reformed the core database processing (PL/SQL procedures) of a product that had already been sold to several customers, improving its performance by a factor of five and allowing it to meet its promised performance objectives.Designed an application to automate the network supervisory software assistants improving the efficiency of a network performance operator. User testing showed reduced network operation centre staff workload and improved responsiveness during sudden network overload events. (A combination of C++, PL/SQL and TCL/TK was used to implement this application).Coded and debugged Oracle database systems and networked Java GUI’s used to create a VolP Telephony statistical reporting application.

Participated on a project that was a joint effort by Nortel and Ameritech to address increasing competitiveness in the telecom marketplace by automating the provisioning of private line and secure data networks. This major project involved development teams on five sites. A significant portion of this work was performed at the customer’s site and required people skills, as well as a lot of travel, and technical software ability. I also worked with the project’s software developers to insure the user’s needs were addressed in the product.Participated in the market analysis, requirements determination and commercial specification of the product as a member of a small team of seven people reporting directly to executive-level Nortel and Ameritech project managers.Created working user interface prototypes (in VB) for usability testing and as an aid in requirements discovery. The project was very large and the prototypes covered all of the interactions required of the largest group of users. These prototypes subsequently became the model for the actual user interfaces.Created marketing presentations and working demonstrations for other potential customers.

Introduced object-oriented design (Shlaer-Mellor) and programming (C++) to the Richmond office.Achieved considerably lower defect count than other teams on the project (who were using traditional structured programming methodologies largely in C).Invented a run time programmable parser with excellent performance to interface with legacy telecom systems.

Managed a major software upgrade of their main product involving a change of operating systems and development environments. (The real-time operating system selected was OS-9 by Microware). Considerably improved the performance of the product and thereby increased the product’s potential market. Removed Techware’s dependence on a single hardware vendor.Led the creation of software for a low cost product for small applications in tandem with parallel hardware development.Negotiated with hardware and software vendors to secure reliable and economical sources for parts and software licenses.Participated in the writing of standards for automated program control protocols in the international semiconductor manufacturer’s industry organization, SEMI.
