The story takes place circa late 1950’s to early 1960’s in Las Vegas.Filled with international intrigue, it reaches as far as Macau.Out of necessity a Savvy group of Jewish mobster wives take over the building of their husband’s Las Vegas businesses when they are forced “to take a powder” to Macau to avoid being busted by “The Feds”. “During a time when women didn’t matter or weren’t important, these women were, and they left their mark.” Mahjong Wives is a story of five women who had to uproot their families, a move that would change their lives forever. They were put in a position where they were up against a political machine that was trying not only to destroy their husband’s earning power, but take them out of power altogether. It tells of a time and place before the Castro regime as well as when he started to take over Cuba. It depicts how the Jewish Mob took a disastrous situation, losing everything in Cuba, and transferring their illicit expertise to make Las Vegas the most glamorous sort after playground where people from all over the world wanted to be. Bo Dietl retired NYC Detective and TV and Movie personality as well as the author of "One Tough Cop" also endorsed "The Nappers".ABOUT THE BOOK:Nick Rondi the author of The Nappers was born and raised in East Harlem in New York City. Co-content contributers, Sean Richardson, Cary Alex, Pat Mulcahy and Frank Pellegrino are also all NYC natives. This story is composed not only of Nick's recollection of what transpired in the neighborhood in the years 1949 to 1968, but also of events to which he bore witness. His knowledge of “The Life” -- the people living it, the honor and dishonor of being part of it -- compelled him to write this book. At its heart The Nappers is also the story of the destruction of a neighborhood that was once the largest Italian enclave in the United States. Although Joey Rendino the protagonist is a gangster who kidnaps other mobsters – thus the title – he is also a man in love. Narrated by his watchful younger brother, this tale of star-crossed love as well as tragedies both personal and political will leave readers wondering which side of a fine line to walk with characters whose actions are both violent and tender. The Nappers can be read as a passionate story between two conflicted longtime lovers, or one of love between two brothers. It’s also a tale about inexplicable acts that caused much confusion in a close-knit community and left many unanswered questions.
