I grew up as an Army Brat in the 1950s and lived many places. I graduated high school in Killeen, Texas and In 2007, I received my master's degree in Library & Information Studies from the University of Oklahoma. As a grad assistant, I worked for nearly 2 years in the Congressional Archives in the Carl Albert Center, also at OU. For one semester, I worked as an intern in the Western History Collections, a division of Bizzell Library at OU.In 2008 I was appointed Political Papers Archivist at New Mexico State Library, where I processed the papers of Senator Pete 'Domenici, six-term senator representing New Mexico in the U.S. Congress. During those years, I had articles published in the Chicken Soup for the Soul series, and wrote and had published numerous scholarly articlesWhen I retired from NMSU at the end of 2013, I began writing fiction full-time, in both long and short form. My work has been published in several genres: science fiction, fantasy, horror, mystery, YA paranormal/ghost stories, and more recently science fiction romance. Before retirement, while working full time in various jobs for various employers, I wrote part-time. During those years, I wrote and had published six novels and over twenty short stories. The first book in The Army Brat Hauntings series, The Ghost's Daughter, has won numerous awards for fiction. I also received certificates of award from the Writers of the Future.I've held many jobs including journalist, archivist, secretary, and carhop. My primary field of work these days is writing fiction and nonfiction. Early fiction is written under the name, Cary Osborne, including he Sydney St. John mystery series set in Oklahoma. The Army Brat Hauntings is written under my current name, Cary Herwig.Specialties: Archival work, collection planning, research methods; brainstorming crazy ideas and making them into stories.
